what is water recycling?
A water recycling system collects and treats greywater* and blackwater* so that it can be safely reused to minimise your demand on potable water. Water recycling can reduce your water demand by up to 80% while saving on your monthly water account as well as reducing your environmental footprint.
*Greywater comprises wastewater from baths, showers, wash hand basins and washing machines.
*Blackwater comprises wastewater from toilets, the kitchen sink, and the dishwasher.
Collectively, household wastewater is commonly known as sewage and either discharged to a municipal sewage treatment works, or disposed on site by means of a septic tank and soak-away (also known as a French drain). Either way, this water is lost forever, whereas an onsite treatment system allows you to recycle up to 100% of this water, and thereby reduce your potable water demand.
Most domestic water uses don’t require potable water, for example flushing your toilet, washing the car, and watering the garden. And most domestic water uses only lightly pollute the water, such as baths and showers, making it ideal for recycling and reuse.
